Perfectly Organized...

As I posted last week, I am gearing up for a major studio/work room/office overhaul in the attempt to organize everything in functional and easily accessible storage/shelving etc.

Weekend Activities

A beautiful weekend, and actually pretty hot...

Inside the house, I have been busy with re-organizing the day-lab work/stock room, which is becoming a frustrating endeavor (more on that later).It has to get done and done right this time around so, I am trying to figure out the most cost efficient, but also the most functional, idea for storage. Pretty overwhelming..

In all this rearranging, a lot of furniture had to be moved around again. Things that were suppose to be temporary are no longer so.

For instance..the sewing table, which has moved three times thus far, is now permanently parked in the Living Room:



Which isn't horrible, but I was hoping to get a bookcase in that location, so I need to come up with something else for that.

I picked up a pitiful Hydrangea that was in a pot way too small (which was covered in some horrible Spring themed and apparently "festive" foil wrap). It was knocked over on the ground. I hate when I see plants like that at Nurseries, and always wonder why no one bothers to pick them up and set them up straight. Feeling sorry for it, I brought it home and re-potted it in an appropriate sized pot.

I had some potting soil with a high acidity level to plant it in...and, as Hydrangeas tend to do when in acidic soil, it has turned the most beautiful blue:

Labor Day Happenings

What did you all do for Labor Day?

My daughter and I put on a pot of Red Beans to slow cook all day while she cleaned her room and I cleaned and organized the house (it was in major need of it, and I am still not done).

I took one of the shelves from my SEWING ROOM and put it out on the back porch, b/c I really needed a space for gardening things:

To fill that space in the sewing room I decided to put a chair there, b/c it is a really nice little room with beautiful views...good for reading, relaxing:

Pearl is now fascinated by this undiscovered (until today) room and played ball/slept for a good part of the day there (oh, and we taught her to fetch!)

My daughter planted some Peas, Squash, and Lettuce for a little garden she would like to set up soon:

We found a nice little window sill in the kitchen for a baby cactus:



And our Confederate Rose bloomed today:


.

And before we knew it...time to eat an early dinner, and now it's back to work for me.

It was a nice Labor Day...hope you all enjoyed yours as well.

Window Treatments/Fabric Dilemmas

I am having some fabric/window treatment issues in 3 rooms. Bare with me..I will try to explain in short. Would love your opinions too!

First, I bought this fabric to use in the making of two window treatments of the new and improved sewing room:







.

It is very pretty and I love the colors, but I am on a tight budget and I can't put any more moola into that project. The fabric was sewn together with some old gray fabric I had and the plan was to make it half panels, only covering the lower sashes for privacy leaving the top uncovered and open to light).

Not done with it yet, but even with the lining, I think they are too thin and the small design/repeat of the design bothers me (i had imagined the design huge, not at all like it actually was when it got here):

I found two vintage panels (they look 1960's/70's or newer to me) not long ago and picked them up for a low price. I knew I could use the fabric for something.

I am in love with the design a lot:

So, I thought I could maybe use it in the sewing room:






.

*side note: AND, it is long enough so that after i trim it to fit the windows, I will have enough to hopefully recover this lamp shade for this fantastic lamp base i found on the side of the road last week. Seeing them all together like that, I think the lamp needs to be painted the sandy beige gold color from the fabric:




.

So, then there is the kitchen, which is getting some paint currently. I love the Jadite Kitchen Green color from the 30's..40's..into the 50's and decided to go with that as the primary color...with the accents being white, dark red, yellow, darker shades of green..chrome or nickel accents. I have been having a hard time finding fabric or window coverings I like for this room.

A couple of examples of the basic color scheme/Jadite color I had in mind and the kitchen in progress:

Enameled Porcelain top table with dark red edge and legs recently repainted, which will go in the breakfast nook area:

All the elements, wall color(this is the first wall coat only, so it will be darker), cabinet faces and hardware, canisters and pulls, chairs which will have dark red upholstered seats, table, white paneling..etc with the drapes:

The drapes are not 1930's/40's, but I like the mix I think..the older color scheme mixing with the mid century ferns is kind of neat.

But, does it blend well? Does the lack of red in the drapes mess it up?

I do love the darker shades of green with the Jadeite green of the walls definitely though.

I've made more progress in the sewing room since I last posted. I am still waiting on the fabric to make the window panels, but I did get some shelving put up, sewing table, magnetic boards etc.

This room is so tiny (about 7'x7'x7'x5')it is hard to get nice photos, they seem cramped. But, regardless:

is right off my room. This wall is the wall my sewing desk is now situated against:

Progress thus far...I found these 2 galvanized metal shelving units below(which are for garages, pantries etc.) for only $14 each, which was wonderful b/c normal shelving is soooo overpriced and these work exactly right for what I need:






I still have some individual shelving to put up..and boxes to fill, the window panels to make....but, now it actually feels like a real room finally.

Sewing Room, Update and Sale

Well, painting paneling isn't as easy as painting walls. It took a couple extra coats and a pretty long time. But, it is done and much more bright in that little sewing room now:

I found some nice vintage style fabric via Repro Depot which I will use to make window panels for this little room. I love it a lot:


.

It was a toss up between that and this, which is in the 20's and 30's catergory:



It is equally as nice. I may go back and get this one too, for another room b/c fabric in the 20's and 30's category is 20% off through May 13th.
.

I also did a tiny update today and we have a 10% sale till tomorrow night:

And this relates to nothing...but is strange and funny and worth a little mention. I found this picture below yesterday when packing up some boxes to put away into storage.

I do not ever remember being a KISS band member for Halloween in preschool. I wonder if the other parents scoffed at my mother for allowing this.

But I do remember really liking them a lot, especially Gene Simmons (yeah, I don't know why exactly). I sure wish I had the mask on too:
