Bird Collections + The Lakes

.

Today we went to a tour of the LSU Museum of Natural History, focusing on the extensive collection of birds and bird study skins. The behind the scenes look at LSU's collection, which is the fourth largest university based collection in the world, was given by Dr. Van Remsen, renowned LSU Ornithologist. It was great.

Imperial Woodpecker, Ivory Billed Woodpecker (which was collected in 1887).

I put together a gallery of just about 20 or so of the photographs from the tour, they were too big to post here...

The museum was fun to walk through. I haven't been in several years.

Afterwards we met up with Jane and Nora at the Lakes to watch the Egrets, Cormorants, Ibises etc come in to roost for the night. There were so many crowding the Cypress trees by the time we left that I wouldn't have been surprised if a few limbs snapped and broke from all the weight.

Just a few pictures (I still have a lot to go through)..
