Home Craft, Book, WH Macy...

.

I was reading this (Dominique Browning/Wall Street Journal) about Michael Smith "joining the Obamas in Washington to design the family quarters" this morning and realized this is the third reference to Victory Gardens I have come across in recent articles. There are a lot of articles about Victory Gardens in some of my old House and Garden type magazines from the WWII era, so I got out my box and started looking. But, I got sidetracked and found a few neat magazines I almost forgot I had...

These 1930s Home Craft DIY magazines are so much fun to look through. They have tutorials on everything...furniture, block printing, caning, book binding, metal and wood work etc. and I love the cover designs..

This is a particularly nice tutorial...

This 1940 Popular Photography...

.

And these 1920s/30s Nature Magazines.

This cover...

Yesterday one of the 80 page hardback test books came in (the one with a dust jacket).
I forgot some things (like the spine etc)...and there are a few revisions that have to be made, but all in all I am happy with it...

.

William H Macy is in love with the back yard all of the sudden. And out of the blue he decided to try and make me his new best friend. I walk outside, he comes running fast to be sure he is the first to greet me. He's really sweet and has to be someone's cat (or was, I noticed he was fixed), but the other cats are terrified of him. This is the cat I think beat Sufi up, but I am not sure. He is pretty intimidating as far as looks go (and monster huge).

.

Seconds before she took the whole thing down...

And I really thought for once she was just going to smell the flowers...

Cats have a bat and batter mentality in general, not a stop and smell the flowers one.

: )

This is soo true, especially as far as Gray goes...but I have faith that one day she will maybe hopefully stop the batting? I am used to Pearl who literally never ever bats anything...even when she was a kitten. So, yes, this year has been an awakening to the bat/batter mentality for sure.

The book looks neat! Did you order it from blurb.com?

What are you going to do with the finished product? Distribute to friends/family, try to score a publishing deal?!

I'm thinking about getting a photgraphy book together myself. It's surprisingly affordable.

SHANNON-
i am in the process of getting test books done with a few different places (to see the difference in quality vs price etc).. there is lulu, mpix, apple, viovio, mypublisher, blurb, dotphoto and there are a ton more out there too! this one with the dustjacket is from blurb. most are fairly affordable yes, which is always pretty nice!

i have a few more layouts i am ready to get printed too, so this has been a good learning experience.

I am not sure what will come of this one yet, but i am starting up a new business that deals with photography so i will eventually be offering books hopefully. :)
