Mosaic Tile TV Cabinet: Done

.

Mosaic Tile TV Cabinet: Done...finally!

I started with an old TV Cabinet of mine that I have had for years. It was bare wood, with one coat of Poly and had old not so pretty knobs. The panels were just a recessed wood.

Before:

.

And here it is finally finished, with a Pearl Gray Maipei Grout. The darker grout was a great choice I think, because now you can see the subtle shift in color bewteen the light gray and white tiles..and none of the tiles get lost in the grout (which would have happened if I had used white grout).

I just need one more knob, one strangely disappeared this weekend.

After:

.

Steps:
1. Sanded it completely
2. Primed with Kilz
3. Glass Tiles applied on top of panels with tile adhesive.
4. Applied un-sanded grout to the tiles.
5. Painted 3 coats of Kilz interior Semi-Gloss
5. 3 Coats of Polycrylic in Satin, which also took some of the gloss away.
7. New knobs.

Weekend: Kitchen + TV Cabinet

I have yard work to tend to alllll weekend long, but I did finish a bit more in the kitchen in the breakfast nook area. Still not done in here at all, but a little sneak peek:

.

Also, I finished tiling the doors to the TV cabinet. I just have to wait to grout, b/c I need a hand mixer to mix it. I used pre-mixed before, and it's a bit too expensive, so I decided to go the powder grout route. Hopefully, this will be done soon:

Before + early paint:

Progress thus far.
Tiles are green, black, light gray, white:

Finished Chairs

Over the weekend I worked on getting all 4 or so layers of paint off of the first of the four chairs...worked till it was too dark to work anymore:

.

The next morning I sanded and cleaned it..painted and re-upholstered the seat. I finished up yesterday:

I really like how it turned out. I wasn't sure about the upholstery, but after looking at a million florals and stripes etc...I decided neutral and solid would be best. I didn't want it competing with any other fabrics/designs in any of the other rooms.
.

so, there are 3 left. One is obviously in better shape than the others:

.

I also picked up some square foot tile pieces on sale, to make end tables with. I just couldn't find any tables that I liked enough, or that were affordable and of good quality:

back to work...hope you all had a nice weekend..father's day..etc..

P.S. I should have a pretty large jewelry updates thursday or Friday at www.day-lab.com so be sure to check back!
